Hillary Clinton: Sore Winner?

One important thing to mention in the aftermath of the RBC decision: Hillary ended up with more delegates than Obama from Michigan, and more delegates than Obama from Florida.  And yet, she still reserves the right to appeal the decision?  The results were apparently not good enough for her, according to Harold Ickes.

Let's remember that the Michigan compromise resulted in Senator Clinton getting only four delegates less in Michigan than she wanted.  And she's willing to prolong this lack of party unity for a mere four delegates, which won't make a lick of difference to the outcome of the election?  What possible principle could she be supporting there?

Obama really didn't have a leg to stand on in Florida with claims to winning, but the situation in Michigan was much murkier.  Circumstances there could have justified arguing over Michigan again and again.  But Obama let Michigan go, and let her have it.  Isn't it time for her to do the same with the nomination?

Re: Hillary Clinton: Sore Winner? (2.00 / 1)

well, considering that Hillary did get more votes and "won" those states, why do you even question that she got "more" delegates?

unless you believe that MI & FL should have been stripped 100%

Re: Hillary Clinton: Sore Winner? (none / 0)

hence my quotes around "won"

what part of that do you not understand?

and now, since MI & FL do count, Hillary has won both of those states.

Exactly my point.

She won, and yet, she is still objecting.

Re: Hillary Clinton: Sore Winner? (none / 0)

disclaimer:  HRC supporter who will vote for Obama in the GE

that said, I do not believe that taking 4 delegates that were for Hillary originally and reassigning them to Obama based on exit polls is correct.

Re: Hillary Clinton: Sore Winner? (2.00 / 2)

Neither is giving her votes from an illegitimate election with her being the only major name on the ballot.

Hence the compromise.

Re: Hillary Clinton: Sore Winner? (none / 0)

I actually agree with you, because I think it does set a bad precedent.  Especially since those 4 delegates will not matter at all.  If the Obama campaign had said, "We support seating the delegates as is, 73-55, with Obama getting all the uncommitteds, but delegates being cut 50%" they would have had the moral high ground and the voters would have been counted in the most technically correct way.  It would only make sense to scrap over those 4 delegates if that were potentially the difference at the end, which it won't be.

Re: Hillary Clinton: Sore Winner? (none / 0)

thank you.  Even if she got 100% of the delegates from both states, she still wouldn't have won.

So, it was a little ironic hearing Donna with her rules & cheating speech, and then have the MI delegates done in such a way(by exit polls)

personally, it would have been better not to seat MI at all.

Technically, yes, but at what cost? (none / 0)

We need MI, and bringing them in will be better for the GE.  At this point that's what counts.

Re: Hillary Clinton: Sore Winner? (2.00 / 1)

The Rules committee wanted to send a message back to Michigan that they had a role in the process.

Look forward to November.

Now we need to give Hillary something that makes her want to help Obama win. I'd vote for letting run with HealthCare using HER plan. Elizabeth Edwards might like that too.

It's a challenge but Hillary is a fighter and it would show us what she would have been able to do for her future Presidential efforts.

The real question (none / 0)

I think that they actually respected many of the general election voters, because undoubtably a lot of Obama/Edwards supporters stayed home or voted in the Republican primary.

The proportions at the end probably better resembled the actual electorate and made the Michiganders feel better about the whole thing.

The pebbles have voted and the avalanche has begun.

One Things for Certain - (none / 0)

If anyone tells me that my state's Primary "won't count", I'll sure as Hell never believe them again. Maybe that'll end up being a GOOD thing...

Re: One Things for Certain - (none / 0)

Indiana just moved up the 2012 primary to next week.

Obviously, not all the potential candidates are on the ballot and we've been told it won't count but I'm going to vote just in case. We'll also be hosting the Democratic Convention, despite claims from the DNC that "no decision has been made on the 2012 convention" and "any function you hold in your basement won't represent the DNC." Not supporting our convention is an affront to democracy!

On to Indy! On to Indy!

Re: Hillary Clinton: Sore Winner? (none / 0)

Of course Michigan and Florida should have been stripped.  But the committee didn't want to deal with the UPROAR that would have caused.  Months of protests.  Fox News going crazy.  McCain rubbing his hands in glee.

Look at the hew and cry that went up from the Clintonistas AFTER SHE WON MICHIGAN AND FLORIDA, officially, now.

Can you imagine the crying, moaning and garment rending had MI and FL been locked out?

So, the RBC acted like politicians.

Everything that happened on Saturday resulted in sloppy, imperfect comprosmises that neither side was totally happy with.

Hey!  Welcome to politics!  Yeah, it sucks to be us, mere mortal voters who have to actually deal with the outcome.

But, hey, imagine that happening!  Politics being subject to politics!

I AM SHOCKED!  THIS IS A DISGRACE!  OUTRAGE!  DENVER OMELET!  WE NEED TO REMOVE THE POLITICS FROM POLITICS!

Gimmie a break.
